Computers for AlbaniaOne of the strongest ideas for future FIAT/IFTA activity involves the provision of help to those of our members who are in particular need of assistance for economic or political reasons. This may take the form of a direct subsidy from FIAT/IFTA funds, as was offered to enable some of our members to attend the recent FIAF Summer School, or it may be that members may be able to offer help with particular problems. At the Paris Conference we will hear a request for help in the provision of news and documentary materials to the archives of television stations in the states of former Yugoslavia. I have also received a request for help from Natasha Vasi, Head of the Archive of Albanian Television. She writes: Albanian TV Archive is the only one of that kind in our country. It includes materials since the very first day of TV broadcasting in Albania in 1969. Because of the very difficult conditions our country has passed through, it is poorly supplied with technical equipment. Albanian Television has been a member of FIAT/IFTA for 5 years and members will surely remember their programme which won the FIAT/IFTA Television Archives Award in Washington last year. The Archive is badly in need of computer equipment, both hardware and software, to improve its organisation and efficiency. If you have any such equipment which is surplus to your requirements and which you would be able to send to Albania, please contact: Natasha Vasi
