NOTICE OF AMIA'S SIXTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE
AMIA will be holding its sixth annual conference in Atlanta, USA, on 3-7 December
1996. The full range of issues involved in collecting, storing, preserving
and using archival moving images will be discussed in panels, presentations,
workshops and symposia.
There will be sessions on the following topics: national preservation initiatives
in the U.S. and Canada, sports libraries and licensing, digital libraries and
digital issues for archivists, the use and abuse of moving images, archiving
magnetic film sound elements law, coalition building, institutionally-driven
cataloguing imperatives, updating standards for cataloguing genre terms, archiving
1996 political campaign footage, developing universal preservation format standards
for digital media, reports from the Image Permanence Institute on digital restoration
techniques and from Kodak on preservation stocks, a demonstration of nickelodeon-era
hand-cranked silent film projectors, and a beginner's guide to getting jobs
in film archives.
There will also be the presentation of the annual awards, featuring the AMIA's "Silver
