TRAINING COMMISSION: LOOKING AHEAD
In preparation for the next FIAT seminar, in Budapest, the Training
Commission will concentrate on two main points:
- The first point concerns the planned cooperation with the International
Music Centre (IMZ). It is an international organisation for music departments
in television organisations or national institutes, such as museums or music
libraries, and it collects all recordings in the classical field, i.e. opera,
ballet, concerts, song and jazz. The IMZ Centre in Vienna also has a computerised
data base where thousands of titles from all over the world are registered.
What has been missing until now is the verification that all these recordings
are actually available (sometimes live broadcasts were listed), who has the
rights, on what formats the concerts or operas were produced, etc. This data
could now be revised and/or corrected with the help of FIAT members. As a
first step in this direction the IMZ in Vienna will supply a list of the
cities in which IMZ as well as FIAT members are employed. Then we will try
to encourage the heads of the music departments and archives to a cooperate
in the verification and correction of the existing IMZ data. If all goes
well, we hope to be able to present a first partial success in Budapest.
- The second main point would be a regional conference for Eastern and Middle
European television archivists. Our colleagues in Athens have announced a
regional conference for the beginning of April. Further details will be given
directly to the colleagues in Hungary, Croatia, Albania, Bulgaria and Rumania
in due time.
By the way - the Round Table will also deal with training activities by the audiovisual
organisations FIAT/IFTA, IASA and IFLA.
