The Programming & Production Commission

Fall is a busy period for the FIAT/IFTA Commssions. It is only two months since the Programming & Production Commission met in Budapest during the annual conference.

Notable from that meeting is the decision to hold the spring Television Archive Award shortlisting meeting in Latin America, Santiago de Chile. The date is not yet fixed , but late May is the most probable. The idea of combining a P&P Commission meeting with a FIAT/IFTA Latin American Seminar was also discussed with our colleagues from TNC, Television National de Chile. The TNC is ready to host this seminar. The detailed programme will be decided later this fall in close cooperation with our Latin American membership. Since it is a regional seminar , the seminar language will preferably be Spanish.

The cooperation between FIAT/IFTA and FOCAL is getting more practical results. FOCAL's Julie Lewis gave a lecture at the Conference on how to market television archives.

Discussed at the Commission meeting was a first draft outline of a joint FIAT/IFTA-FOCAL summer school for Archive Researchers. This topic will be further elaborated during the Commission's meeting mid-November in Baden-Baden, Germany.

It was also decided that the November meeting would review the voting rules of the Award and continue the work with establishing a project group on Archive Management deriving from the idea and presentation of Lise-Lotte Westh of the Danish Radio at the Budapest Conference.

The fall P&PC meeting has taken place November 14-15th. Main issues of that meeting were, apart from further discussions of the above mentioned Latin American Seminar and Researchers' Summer School, outlining the programme of the 1998 FIAT/IFTA Conference and general Assembly in Florence, Italy and also finishing the production of the Guidelines for the Use of Archive Material document.
