News from the Documentation CommissionThe Documentation Commission and the Technical Commission will meet on the 11th and 12th of December at the Netherlands Audiovisual Archive (NAA) in Hilversum, Holland. The two Commissions will discuss their possible future collaboration and try to join forces in their technical and documentational efforts to help developing international metadata standards for digital multimedia. The Documentation Commission will further start on the organisation of the 2nd Documentation Seminar that, very kindly, will be hosted by the newly formed Südwestrundfunk in Stuttgart in May 1999. The main topics of this seminar will be: the archival problems concerning interactive media and copyright issues. The Documentation Commission also plans to invite an official representative of the European Commission to Stuttgart, to present the Fifth Framework, the platform for a new series of European projects that will focus on the distribution of electronic information. The chair of the Documentation Commission, Annemieke de Jong, will represent FIAT and the audiovisual archives during a series of cross-domain brainstorming sessions that is organised by the European Commission in Luxembourg this autumn. These sessions will be attended by key-experts from archives, libraries and museums in Europe. The attendants will discuss strategic and technical issues affecting collaboration across these domains. The objective is to explore what foci and initiatives can best support and promote cooperation between these organisations in Europe, with a view to optimising the opportunities available under the Fifth Framework.
