Can you tell us a little about your background? When did you start working
with television?
I was born 1955 in Karlskrona (a little town in southern Sweden). I'm the
mother of three children and one stepdaughter so of course my family is always
the most important thing in my life. My family's main interests are music,
literature and travels. I started my education with a BA at Lund University
followed by a Librarian graduation in 1981. Besides some short time employment
at different libraries I spent some time as Librarian at the Swedish Archive
for Sound and Moving Images in 1982 and 1984. I found the audio-visual archiving
extremely interesting since this type of work had a combination of both information
technology and culture being the main disciplines in my education.
Since 1984 employed as documentalist at SVT Television Archives. Since 1988
head of catalogue development at SVT. 1993-1997 Responsible for information
strategies at SVT Engineering dept. Since 1997 in charge of Catalogue and development
at SVT Television Archives. Member and CO-chairperson of FIAT's Documentation
Commission since 1990. SVT's representative in EBU' s expert group for metadata.
What's important in you daily work?
Off course I have the responsibility to manage the staff and my prior responsibilities
like intake, cataloguing, information systems and development. As project manager
for several information systems, like stock control system, digital news archive
system I'm often on the run not being able to sit down and think. I'm trying
hard to coach my staff and keep up with new technologies. It's not easy to
be a specialist and manager at the same time but I don't think I'm the only
one in this situation.
What are your priorities within FIAT?
I do think that FIAT as an organisation has taken big steps during the ten
years that I've followed the work toward a professional organisation. The interest
from the manufactories and other organisations shows that Fiat is a respected
forum. It's important that we keep it that way and grow in our knowledge and
competence concerning technology development, metadata and preservation etc.
The work within FIAT Documentation Commission strongly work in that direction
and the individual members are taking part in different development projects.
For me personally the DC meetings are of great importance and give me the energy
to manage the demands at my daily work. I hope that the output from the Commission
gives the FIAT membership the same outcome.
Is there anything specific that you want to achieve?
For me as an archive woman it's important to give an example to women in particular
that involvement in new technology, digital formats etc. not only is a matter
for male technicians. Its fun and creative to work in this new areas and important
to involve our traditional knowledge in the new fields.
