The conference ends with a grand ceremony and a closing dinner where the winners of the both TV-archive awards - FIAT/IFTA Television Archive Awards respectively The FIAT/IFTA Innovation Award - are presented. Open to all This FIAT/IFTA World Conference is as usual open to all, FIAT/IFTA-member or not. The conference programme and registration form will be mailed to members in the beginning of April. All conference information will also be available at the FIAT/IFTA web site. Conference language The official conference language is English and all conference documentation should be submitted in English. No translation services to other languages will be at disposal. Conference theme and programme The working bodies of FIAT/IFTA - The Commissions and Work Groups (Documentation, Programming & Production, Technical, Training, Latin American regional group and the Televisions Studies work group) are responsible for setting up the conference programme via the work within their areas of responsibility coordinated by the Secretary General in a Vienna Conference Organizing Committee. This VCOC met in Vienna in February and produced the framework of the conference programme as the basis for the call for papers. Proposals should address the main conference theme. The theme of the conference is "Media Asset Management for the 21st Century - Content is King, Meta data is Queen and Archiving reigns overall". It is of course not a coincidence that the conference theme contains several of the audiovisual medias "buzz words" of today. It also reflects the media market´s - as well as the manufacturers´s of technical equipment - booming interest in all the aspects of audiovisual archiving. The conference will start with the screenings and voting for the Archive Award. The first plenary session on Sunday afternoon will then try to give an overview of current standardization on the audiovisual archiving area with examples on integration archives-programme production. The first plenary session on Monday morning will deal with systems and analysis - opportunities for archives and programme production, especially the needs of the latter in a digital environment as well as new standards for professional training. We can also see these session followed by workshops on "cross media" problems dealing with radio/TV/stills/text/online services/Internet. And we already know there will be workshops on Latin American archives as there will be on African archive projects. The copyright aspects on archiving are always present, this time as workshops. Tuesday morning plenary session will mainly be dedicated to overviews of current technologies on storage, encoding, standards and migration. Also running implementations of what we have seen lately as presentations on our conferences. On Wednesday we hope to find topics connected to the Televisions Studies in the programme as well as the FIAT-IASA work on radio archiving and the still present analogue technology we have to continue living with for still a long time. This is to give you a very brief overview for your proposals for inputs to the programme in plenary sessions and work shops. Deadline for proposals A summary of your proposal (maximum of 200 words) together with a brief personal résumé should be e-mailed to the FIAT/IFTA office before April 30th. When you have submitted a proposal you should receive a confirmation receipt either by e-mail or by fax. If you don´t get this within a week from mailing us, please contact the FIAT/IFTA office.
