Welcome to the new FIAT/IFTA web site !

The new FIAT/IFTA website is now accessible to all our members and to all web users interested in media archives management. I am confident that the improvements brought to it - more content, new organisation of headings, new services, enhanced display and navigation, more samples from our archives - will not only meet the needs and expectations of our actual members, but also attract many viewers and future members of FIAT/IFTA.

It has been significantly enriched, and I want here to thank all contributors, and especially those who have sent presentations of their archives as well as pictures from their archive. Thanks to CBS News and to the Oklahoma University, to the Dutch Institute of Sound and Vision and to the Irish TV, thanks to the Peruvian and the Puerto Rican TV, thanks to the National Archives of Malawi and Zambia … (see Members Archive presentations ).

The first video clip is on line on the home page : on 1st October 1967, the French second TV channel transmitted its first images in color. For this important event, ORTF officials were on stage, very seriously dressed mostly in black and white. It was the "New Look" of French TV !

More are expected and welcome ! Our richness is our members archives.

The new web site marks an important milestone in the FIAT/IFTA development, as it provides a better visibility for FIAT activities. I invite you to read the New Look paper which will guide you through the changes achieved and new content.

More good news

The preparation of the FIAT/IFTA World Conference in Brussels is progressing : the programme has been updated and looks very interesting and attractive. You can register on line. Be careful : the deadline for registration is 15 July 2003 !

Two giant broadcasters have decided to join FIAT/IFTA :

the China Central Television, and Prasar Bharati, the Broadcasting Corporation of India. Their programmes reach half of the world audience ! We'll be very proud to welcome them in Brussels.

FIAT/IFTA has decided to take part in the Balkan Archives project developed by COPEAM. More information can be found in the Project pages. They will be completed later in July after the first Task Force meeting in Bucharest, hosted by the Rumanian TV.

RAI has developed a FIAT/IFTA members data base. You might have already received individually invitation and instructions to fill in the questionnaire about your archive. It will be soon linked to the FIAT web site for consultation.

Finally, we had three joint FIAT/IFTA meetings in Baden Baden, hosted by SWR : the Executive Council meeting, the Media Management Commission meeting and the Programme and Production meeting. Have a look at Steve Bryant's, Henry Lindqvist's, Sue Malden's and Branko Bubenik's reports !
